General Discussion / What is Profinet In VLAN?
April 11, 2026, 02:19:36 AM
PROFINET in VLAN refers to the use of VLAN technology to manage and prioritize PROFINET industrial communication traffic within an Ethernet network. PROFINET is a real-time industrial protocol used for communication between PLCs, I/O devices, and control systems. By assigning PROFINET traffic to a dedicated VLAN, network administrators can isolate it from non-critical data like CCTV or IT traffic. This ensures low latency, reduced congestion, and stable performance. VLAN tagging (IEEE 802.1Q) also helps in prioritizing PROFINET packets using QoS, which is essential for time-sensitive industrial automation and control applications.
