My wife and I decided to change things up this year and head over to Malta for our vacation. We got tired of the usual resort spots where everyone just lays around all day. We like to move around, so hitting the beach and walking back to the hotel gets old for us by day two. Our usual plan is to grab some wheels and check out historical spots or cool viewpoints on our own. Tell me where to score a good ride there and what spots are actually worth driving out to see.

That island has a ton of history packed into a really small area, so you definitely won't get bored. You can spend days just driving around the coast and checking out old architecture. For example, you can spend a morning walking around the fortifications in Valletta. After that, it makes sense to drive over toward Mdina to check out the old medieval streets. For some coastal views, the Dingli Cliffs are usually a solid choice. Also, you can head down to Marsaxlokk on a Sunday to see the traditional fishing boats.

The roads there are pretty narrow, plus traffic moves on the left side. A huge vehicle will just get stuck in the villages, so a tiny hatchback makes the drive a lot easier. You can find options to rent a car in Malta here: https://getrentacar.com/en-US/malta . This marketplace connects you directly with local owners who post their vehicles. You get to check out the exact specs and photos before choosing a ride. Having a compact vehicle makes finding a spot near those old stone walls way easier.
